Years 3 & 4 are referred to as “Lower Key Stage 2”; this reflects their stage in the National Curriculum. The National Curriculum comprises the “core subjects” of English, Maths and Science, together with the “foundation” subjects of Art & Design, Computing, Design & Technology, Geography, History, Languages, Music and PE. Religious Education is taught in line with the Oxfordshire Schools’ Agreed Syllabus.
A useful source of information about the teaching of Maths is our Calculation policy:
Your child’s academic progress will be informally assessed by his or her teacher on an ongoing basis, and the children might take informal test papers at points throughout the school year. Our aim is to make these tests as low-key as possible for the children.
During their time at the school pupils will take part in a far broader curriculum than the list above. Opportunities offered may include educational trips and visits including residential trips, theatre trips, sports and music events, class assemblies, visiting speakers and extra-curricular activities, to name just a few.
If you would like further information about the curriculum at Long Furlong, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher or the office staff. You can also find a useful summary of what should be taught below.
