Following routine administration, the board voted unanimously to appoint Mrs Jenny Fishpool as a co-opted governor. Jenny is a very experienced teacher, recently retired from the independent sector; the school is well-known to her, as all three of her sons attended Long Furlong.

The interim Headteacher, Sandra Miller, gave a verbal report. She reflected on her recent learning walk, where she had noted ongoing improvement in pupils’ independence and knowledge retrieval skills. She commented that the focus on curriculum planning and monitoring is ongoing, and that safeguarding of pupils remains – as always – the highest priority.

Governors monitor the school’s budget at least six times throughout the financial year (1st April – 31st March); at this meeting, the budget monitoring report to the end of December 2023 was scrutinised.  Discussion took place around funding for pupils with additional needs, and the provision of school meals (including cost and quality).

Miss Miller advised the board that curriculum subject audits have been carried out; the audits have been useful in considering current resources and identifying gaps.

The board discussed the implementation of support staff, with particular reference to those employed to support pupils who have an Education Health & Care Plan (EHCP). It was agreed that the model of nursery provision should be revisited at a future board meeting.

An OCC policy was adopted (Anti-bullying, Discrimination and Harassment – staff). It was agreed that the Online Safety and Social Media policy should be carried forward until the new Head has joined the school.

Adam Millgate (Chair) thanked Ellie Kaye for her work during 5 years as a co-opted governor and presented her with flowers on behalf of the board.
