Pupils in the Nursery class are aged 3-4 years old.  At Long Furlong we have a Nursery class led by a qualified teacher, and a qualified Early Years Support Worker.  Sessions are available from Monday to Friday during school term-time only, 8:45 – 11:45 a.m.  As a maintained school we receive funding for Nursery places from the government; our Nursery class is therefore provided at no charge to parents.  Children do not have to attend all five sessions every week, but please note that if your child is registered at our Nursery, we will receive the full 15 hours’ universal funding.

If your child is entitled to 30 hours education and care, we can split the funding with an independent providers – 15 hours each. We cannot split it in other ways (eg 10 hours here and 20 hours there). For more information the Early Years Alliance has a useful page here and you can see if you are eligible on the Government website here.

If we have spaces, your child can be considered for a place at any point after the term in which they reach the age of 3, as follows:

  • If your child’s 3rd birthday is in April, May, June, July or August, they can start at any point from the September after their 3rd birthday
  • If your child’s 3rd birthday is in September, October, November or December, they can start at any point from the January after their 3rd birthday
  • If your child’s 3rd birthday is in January, February or March, they can start at any point from the April after their 3rd birthday

Nursery admissions are managed by the school and must comply with Oxfordshire County Council’s Nursery Admissions policy, which can be accessed by clicking below.

Secondary Transfer

Children at Long Furlong transfer to a wide range of secondary schools in both the public and private sectors; links to their websites are under the “Links” tab at the top of this page. The County Council oversees admissions to the state secondary schools. You will receive information and invitations to visit local secondary schools in the autumn of the year before your child is due to transfer. For more information please visit the Oxfordshire County Council website

Catchment area

Our catchment area is shown below.  Living outside the catchment area doesn’t necessarily mean your child won’t be offered a place in the Nursery or school.
