Becoming a Governor

Becoming a school governor is both an extremely rewarding experience, but also a serious undertaking. Governors play a vital role in shaping the direction and success of the school, and by volunteering your time and expertise you can:

  •      Help improve outcomes for all pupils
  •      Contribute to strategic decisions about the school’s future
  •      Ensure the school’s resources are used effectively

We welcome governors with a range of backgrounds and experiences. You don’t need to have a background in education – enthusiasm, a commitment to learning and a desire to contribute are the most important qualities. We are particularly interested in skills such as:

  •      Finance and budgeting
  •      HR and personnel management
  •      Education and safeguarding
  •      Community engagement
  •      Law and governance
  •      Strategic planning

From time-to-time vacancies do arise and these are filled either by election, for parent and staff roles, or by the board for co-opted and local authority roles (following a nomination from OCC).

If you would like to know more about becoming a governor, please contact the Chair of Governors either by email or through the school office.
