Adam Millgate
Chairs welcome
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Long Furlong,
On behalf of the Governing Board, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to you all. I hope you’ve had a chance to read Dr Crellin’s welcome message elsewhere on the website.
My name is Adam Millgate, and I’ve had the privilege of serving as Chair of Governors at Long Furlong since 2021. It’s a real honour to work with such a dedicated and professional team of staff and fellow governors.
As Chair, one of my key responsibilities is to make sure that the Governing Board is doing its job well – supporting Dr Crellin, the senior leadership team, and all the staff in running the school effectively.
Governors play an important role in setting the strategic direction of the school. Our core responsibilities, as defined by the Department for Education, are to:
- Ensure the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined;
- Hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school;
- Oversee the proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources.
At Long Furlong, we also believe in a fourth key role: ensuring strong engagement with everyone in the school community – staff, pupils, parents, carers, and our wider group of supporters.
What makes being a governor so rewarding is the shared commitment we all have to the school. We work as a team, always putting what’s best for the children at the heart of every decision we make.
We’re incredibly proud of what our pupils achieve here, and we’d love the chance to show you what makes Long Furlong such a special place. If you’re considering Long Furlong for your child, please do get in touch with the school office to arrange a visit – we’d be delighted to welcome you.
If you see me around school, don’t hesitate to stop for a chat. You can also reach me by email at chair@long-furlong.oxon.sch.uk, or by leaving a note at the school office.
I look forward to meeting many of you soon.
Warm regards,
Adam Millgate
