How we work
At Long Furlong, we operate using the “Circle” model of Governance, or “Governance without Committees”. This means that the full board meets more frequently and is therefore better informed and able to be more agile when it comes to making key decisions.
The board meets at least once per 6-week term and discusses all aspects of the school. A Chair and Vice Chair are elected annually by the board, and each governor is asked to take on a specific role, either to lead one of the key areas for the board, or to link into specific areas of the Schools Development Plan. Our key areas are:
- Safeguarding/Child Protection
- Inclusion (including SEND)
- Finance
- Health & Safety
- Quality of Education
- Community
We have one standing committee, which is required by law, and that is the Pay committee. This committee meets in the Autumn term to ensure that the pay policy is followed and is effective.
